Tony Zhou's Video Essays

I recently stumbled onto a few of these video essays by Tony Zhou and they're brilliant dissections of the craft of directing.

If I didn't feel like I should spend more time writing, I'd be keen to make some of these one day.  Till then check them out!

Frankfurt, Germany

In the aftermath of WWII, Frankfurt was a levelled city.

With the intention of gaining support from the rest of Germany and the world for their rebuild, they built a model of the town, which is on display in the Frankfurt Museum, to depict the scale of the destruction.

They exaggerated a lot of the details to drum up increased support.

Sometimes we all build model towns.

Zwaantje
Lisey REALLY loves ducks!

Lisey REALLY loves ducks!

Lisey really loves all things Dutch... and ducks.

One of the first words she taught me in Dutch is "Zwaantje", pronounced Sv-an-ch-e

It's reached a point now where in my head I no longer think of them in English as Swans, but 'Zwaantjes'

Nan & Pop
Nan and Pop Kiss Malta.jpg

This is without a doubt one of my favourite photos of my Grandparents.  I took it on our trip to Malta earlier this year.

Nan was in hospital a few weeks before the trip and I have this incredible memory of her getting moved from one ward to the other.  Pop and I walked down there before Nan was wheeled there by the nurses. It was incredible to see how much Pop lit up when he saw her again.

They were apart for ten minutes, but it could have been days.

Recognising their level of comfort and purely being in the habit of being together is something I love about being married.

Growing old together is special.
